Griffin: Little Spójnia

The little Griffin celebrates 75 years of basketball passion, pride, and the white-and-burgundy tradition of Spójnia Stargard.

In 2024 the Spójnia Stargard basketball club celebrated its 75th anniversary. To mark the occasion, a figure of a little Griffin with a basketball was placed right next to the OSiR sports hall (ul. Pierwszej Brygady 1).

The Stargard club was founded as the “Spójnia” sports association in 1949, following the dissolution of the sports club of the “Związkowiec” association. At that time the club brought together sections including boxing, football, sailing and cycling, and later also swimming. In 1953 a men’s basketball section was established, and today it is the flagship of PGE Spójnia Stargard.

One of the club’s greatest achievements is the silver medal in the Polish senior championship in 1997. There have also been successes in youth basketball at national level. The Stargard team plays in white and maroon and currently competes in the men’s First League. For many years it also played in the top professional division and in European cup competitions.

Over the course of its history, Spójnia also had a women’s volleyball section for several years, as well as bridge, karate and chess sections.
