Stefan Batory Park, covering 7 hectares, is the second-largest green space in Stargard. It is located between Kościuszki and Spokojna Streets, directly next to the Old Cemetery.
Its history dates back to the mid-19th century, when the site was home to the Protestant New Cemetery (Neuer Friedhof), with a chapel and funeral home at its centre. In the post-war years, the cemetery fell into disrepair. In 1970, a decision was made to transform the neglected site into a park. The ground was levelled, new trees and shrubs were planted, and benches were installed.
In the 1990s, the historic layout of the paths was restored, and in 2008, new streetlights were installed to illuminate the walkways. Today, a reminder of the site’s former function is the only surviving German gravestone in the form of an erratic boulder, located near the main gate of the Old Cemetery.
