Its massive cylindrical body rises from a rectangular base, and the whole is crowned by a white cone surrounded by a gallery. Numerous slit loopholes spread over six storeys recall the building’s defensive purpose. The entrance to the Tower was once at the height of the walls, with a dungeon below.
The Białogłówka Tower owes its name to its characteristic white cone, although one legend has it that the name comes from the brave “białogłowy” – women – who once defended the town themselves in place of their fallen husbands.
The area around the Tower is also of special significance for Stargard’s history. It was here that the oldest stronghold stood, where the town’s history began. Its convenient location at the fork of the Ina River favoured its development and provided natural protection.
