Spójnia Stargard

The mural was created to mark the 75th anniversary of Spójnia Stargard. It shows a basketball player, a court, fans and symbols associated with the club. It was initiated by the fans.

Spójnia’s history goes back to 1949, when the “Spójnia” People’s Sports Club was founded. Initially it was a multi-sport club with sections including football, boxing and sailing. The men’s basketball section was established in 1953.

Basketball gradually became the most important part of the club’s activity. In 1968 the team was promoted to the inter-regional league, and in 1979 it won promotion to the second division for the first time. The next breakthrough came in 1994, when Spójnia was promoted to the top division. From 1994 to 2004 the Stargard team played in the Polish top flight.

The greatest success in the club’s history came in the 1996/1997 season, when Spójnia won the silver medal in the Polish Championship. In 2003 the club also won the Polish junior championship. After relegation from the top flight in 2004, Spójnia spent several years in the lower divisions before returning to the top division in 2018, having won the First League.

In 2024 the club celebrated its 75th anniversary. The jubilee was an opportunity for former and current players, coaches, officials and fans to meet and recall the most important moments in the history of Stargard basketball.

The mural at the OSiR sports hall thus refers to Spójnia’s 75-year history and its special place in Stargard’s sporting history. Its location by the hall where matches have been played for years further links the story told in the mural with the place where the club operates and meets its fans.
