Griffin: Stargard Today

"Stargard today" is a medium-sized Polish town and, after Szczecin and Koszalin, the largest centre in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship.

Gryfik Stargard Dzisiaj

It owes its present shape to the hard work of past and present generations of Stargard residents. Today Stargard is a town focused on sustainable development, as shown by numerous economic investments, care for culture and making it accessible to all age groups, and care for nature, symbolised by its largely modernised parks.

The Griffin holds the town’s contemporary flag. It is divided into horizontal stripes: the two outer ones are light blue, the two inner ones red and the middle one white. On the left-hand side of the flag is the town’s coat of arms. The colours of the flag correspond to Stargard’s historical colours. Blue symbolises the Ina River, with which the town has been closely linked for centuries. It is also the colour of the Blessed Virgin Mary – patron of the Collegiate Church – and of John the Baptist, Stargard’s patron saint. Red is the symbol of the Holy Spirit and of Christ, as well as of the courage attributed to the people of Stargard who fought over the centuries. White symbolises the purity, loyalty and humility attributed to the people of Stargard towards the ruling Dukes of Pomerania.
