Lake Miedwie – the fifth-largest lake in Poland and the country’s largest cryptodepression, located on the Pyrzyce Plain near Stargard.
The lake covers an area of 35.27 km², reaches a maximum depth of 43.8 metres and has a shoreline of approximately 39 km. The Płonia River flows through the lake, while marshy shores can be found in its southern part. A drinking water intake supplying Szczecin is located on the eastern shore.
Lake Miedwie was formed by the melting of the ice sheet and was once part of a larger body of water known as Pramiedwie. Since the 18th century, its water level has been regulated for agricultural and water management purposes.
The lake is an important habitat for fish and waterfowl, including the Miedwie whitefish and vendace. It is also a popular destination for waterfront recreation, particularly in Morzyczyn.
