Miejski Browar Stargard

Miejski Browar Stargard (Stargard City Brewery) is a unique spot on the town's culinary and tourist map, combining a signature restaurant with a passion for craft brewing.

Housed in atmospheric historic interiors, the brewery and restaurant draw on Stargard’s rich brewing traditions, which go back centuries to the Middle Ages.

At the heart of the venue are the cosy dining room and the copper brewing vessels, where guests can watch the golden drink being made with their own eyes. Signature unfiltered and unpasteurised craft beers are brewed on site – from classic pilsners to new-wave styles. The extensive restaurant menu offers excellent Polish and regional dishes as well as food specially composed to pair perfectly with freshly brewed beer.

The story of this place does not begin in modern times. It begins in 1907, when construction of an impressive Stargard villa was completed and the director of the sugar factory of the day moved in. In the following decades the building was divided into social housing flats – a residents’ register from that period has even survived. According to a local tale, the villa survived the turmoil of war and the later demolition of almost the entire Bolesława Krzywoustego Street because it housed the NKVD headquarters. How much truth is there in that? Nobody knows. But every old house is entitled to one secret.

Many guests, however, remember much more recent chapters in the building’s history. Just look at their smiling faces when, years later, they recognise their old scout hut or the teachers’ library. Only today, instead of bookshelves, beer vessels await them.

When the villa joined our portfolio in 2012, its beauty lay mainly in its potential. Forgotten, dilapidated and in danger of collapse, it needed far more than a new façade. Seven years of demanding reconstruction lay ahead of us before the opening in 2019. Of the original structure, fragments of the walls and the façade remained, but we managed to save many original details that still give the interiors their unique character.

There were many ideas for the villa’s new life. In the end, Stargard’s rich brewing traditions won out, together with the wish to create a place where residents can meet, eat and raise a glass to a good evening.
And Stargard has known its beer for a long time – far longer than the word “craft” has existed.

The town’s brewing traditions date back to the Middle Ages. As early as 1696 the brewer David Mann owned a brewing plot here. In 1791 the E.G. Kuppermann Brewery was founded, producing around 17,000 hectolitres of beer a year, and from 1865 to 1912 the Lebender family brewery operated in the town. Today we are writing the next chapter of this story.

Miejski Browar Stargard knows nothing of mass production. What it does know is good craftsmanship. Every batch is made on site – from the first idea, through brewing, to pouring fresh beer straight into your glass. Our beers are living, unfiltered and unpasteurised. Each has its own character, just like the villa in which we brew them.

We apply the same philosophy in the kitchen. We serve comfort food with a modern twist: familiar flavours, generous portions and original ideas, but without culinary acrobatics for their own sake. It should be interesting, relaxed and above all delicious – so that you want to come back.
